Capitalising on Eyre Peninsula's wave energy resources

A pilot wave energy project can be underway within a year in South Australia's Eyre Peninsula.

The region's development board has nominated a new deep-sea port for mineral exports and water desalination projects, reported www.abc.net.au.

According to the spokesperson of Eyre Regional Development Board Inc: "Eyre Peninsula is being looked at because it's got a consistent swell, it's between three and five metres. We identified five or six locations on Eyre Peninsula where we could possibly have wave energy as a new industry starting on Eyre Peninsula. We've isolated that down to one key location at this stage for a pilot project."

The report added that the proposal is from Western Australian company Carnegie Corporation.

Last year, it was shared that the company was working on plans for building the combined 50 gigalitre desalination plant and 50 megawatt power station at a site in southern Australia. The $400 million plant would use wave energy as its source of power. Carnegie managing director Michael Ottaviano had said locations on Eyre Peninsula between Port Lincoln and Ceduna, and the Limestone Coast between Robe and the Victorian border were under consideration.
