Extra money for wave farm: report

It is being hoped that an extra £10 million investment will put the UK “ahead of the game” for the next generation of offshore energy technology.

According to thisiscornwall.co.uk, “millions of pounds will be poured into developing sea-based renewable energy technology”.

The report referred to the Wave Hub project.

Energy and climate change minister Mike O'Brien was quoted as saying, “This week’s ramping up of financial backing in favour of technologies such as offshore wind is evidence of our determination to create the right investment environment for renewables. And the funding being made available in the next few months will put the UK ahead of the game for the next generation of offshore technologies.”

The RDA is leading the development of Wave Hub, which will create the world’s largest wave energy farm 10 miles off the north coast of Cornwall. Wave Hub will be an electrical 'socket' on the seabed connected to the National Grid via a subsea cable. With a capacity of up to 20MW, it will allow the pre-commercial testing of wave energy devices on a scale not seen before.
