LEED fund calls for applications

The Western Australian Government has called for applications to be considered for funding under the third funding round of the Low Emissions Energy Development (LEED) Fund.

The government shared that A$10 million will be available for allocation to suitable projects in this round.

The Fund will invest a total of $30 million in technologies where Western Australia has clear natural and competitive advantages, including geothermal, bioenergy and clean coal technologies and renewable energy technologies such as wind, wave, tidal and solar. The LEED fund supports the technological development required to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector and contributes to the national target of 20% renewable energy by 2020.

In the second round, $12.5 million in-principle support was offered to Carnegie Corporation for the development of a demonstration wave energy facility off the WA coast.

Earlier this year, Carnegie formally launched its Perth Wave Energy Project. The launch took place recently at Carnegie’s Wave Energy Research Facility in Fremantle, Western Australia. The primary aim of the project is to demonstrate the CETO technology in commercial operation for the first time. It will also deliver Carnegie’s first project-based revenues from the sale of power. The commercial demonstration project will have a peak installed capacity of 5MW. Detailed cost and design activities associated with Stage 2 will be undertaken during 2010 with construction and commissioning scheduled for 2011.
