Anaheim, California-based VAWT Systems has started producing a new line of Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) specifically designed for the renewable energy market.
The PMG series is unlike conventional PMGs or Permanent Magnet Alternators as these generators are built for the highest performance at the lowest possible revolutions per minute (RPM). These have been developed to produce useable power at speeds lower than 70 RPM and full Rated Power at 400 RPM.
The VAWT Systems 1 kiloWatt (kW) PWG-1 is available in two configurations. A low voltage model (PWG-1-LV) for battery charging and a high voltage model (PWG-1-HV) for connecting directly to a grid-tied A.C. inverter system. These generators are perfectly suited to Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) as they operate at much lower RPMs than traditional Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWTs) but also allow HAWTs to operate at lower wind speeds. The PWG-1 is also well suited for other renewable rotational energy sources such as water (hydro) or wave power.
The Polar Wind series of generators are scalable from 500 Watts to 10 kW and higher.
